Post # 5 - Computers in the Workplace

Computer Literacy in the Military & Transportation

For this discussion, I am going to discuss the transportation division of the military because of my understanding of the industry itself and my own experience working in the transportation part of the military. It is very important to be computer literate within the military because almost everything has gone digital within the military. The transportation part of the military is also apart of logistics which requires extensive work with computers. Any and all logistical transportation requests are sent digitally and all government vehicle licenses are processed digitally as well. All personnel has to know how to use a computer to process requests, track training, and send emails. The programs we use to track training and how to send emails is a common occurrence within the transportation section of the military. If someone does not know how to convert a file into a PDF then it can impede our mission or process.

Over the next ten years, I can see the military and transportation division delving further into technology. The networking will evolve to where personnel will be able to share files and training plans from base to base. These sites are called SharePoints that the civilian side is using to help different parts of their companies that are in different parts of the world. With the evolution of computer hardware, we can store files that will help people who will be taking over certain positions when others leave. The operating systems will become faster and allow others in remote locations to do their jobs more efficiently and have proper continuity. The future will allow the transportation section to deliver parts and have the customers sign digitally instead of on a piece of paper.
