Post # - 7 – Tech Topic Connection
Information Technology Careers
Brief HistoryThe inclusion of IT careers is intertwined with computer science because without people working on computers or testing technology it cannot evolve. People who seek careers within the IT field can find multiple options for the specialty he or she is searching for. The IT career field began before computers but it truly began with the coming of advanced technology. Information Technology careers began with engineers and the creation of switchboards. Switchboards, in the beginning, were the size of a room with individual people manually operating the switches (Vahid & Lysecky, 2017). From there as technology advanced the focus became to keep evolving that same technology. Now engineers who work on the hardware of computers have created switches so small that they are now automatic. Now, people can work in the Information Technology field and be Web Designers, Software Developers or Security Analysts (Writers, 2019).
IT Careers and Computer Hardware/Functions
The major components that IT careers use are computer software, networking, and computer hardware the RAM. First computer software is a major component to understand and use when working with computers. If you are a Web Developer/Designer that person has to use multiple programs to create and maintain that web page. The programs these jobs have to work with are Java or Python and they have to have a lot of RAM because they are going to be running multiple programs at once. Within the modern era, networking is just as important because it takes a team to get a computer or a program to run smoothly not just one person. Hosting individual servers or being in charge of maintaining multiple servers for users is important within IT careers (Writers, 2019).
Use of Programming Languages and Execution Methods
For this topic, I will be focusing on the IT career field of Web Designer/Developers and what types of programming languages and execution methods they use. The major programming languages that Web Designers have to use is HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (Smith, 2019). HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language which uses a programming language to put content on a web page and give it structure. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets which tells the browser how to format and style the HTML. While both of these languages are common for Web Designers to use if JavaScript is used then the programmer has an advantage. Using JavaScript allows the programmer to make static objects into interactive objects, like when using social media updates automatically when a post is sent up.
Use of Software for Web Designers/Developers
The next important part of being a Web Designer is to understand what computer software to use and knowing the role it plays for your job. Web Designers need to use multiple programs in order to create a flowing, interactive web site. Microsoft Word is a documenting program that is important for planning, making notes and creating sitemaps for a web site project. The most commonly used software program Web Designers use is Adobe Photoshop and Adobe XD. These programs are the most important because Photoshop incorporates the graphics and layout for the website and XD creates the prototype web site.
I will be sticking with the Web Design career field within the IT careers for this and the following section as well. Web Designers relate to databases and database management because of the integration between the web site and other technology (Thomas & Thomas, 2018). The web designer themselves will not have to deal with the database management directly because that will be a different person's job within the team. Database management deals with the user interface, tools and dynamic web sites such as Facebook and Youtube.
Network Architecture, Management, and Security
For any, IT career Network architecture, management, and security is vital to maintaining a business's digital integrity. If the network architecture is not strong then anyone can hack into the system and ruin an entire business. The management of the network is ongoing and delves into both the content on the server and the server itself. The security of the network and websites keeps hackers away and is constantly evolving with the advancement of technology. All of these parts are controlled by different people within the Information Technology career field. These are different divisions that create the whole machine and keep it going.
